Obituary:
Oliver R. Johns entered eternal life on September 8, 2003. He was born October 29, 1923 in Lancaster Co., Rapho Twp., PA Oliver moved to San Antonio in 1967 and served as the Deputy Director of Aerospace Fuels at Kelly AFB. Prior to coming to San Antonio, he was employed at Olmstead Air Force Base in Middletown, PA He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Reserves and entered the Air Force in 1942 and served as a radio operator in a C-47 during World War II in Europe. He enjoyed people very much and served on the Red Carpet Committee of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. Upon retiring from Civil Service and Air Force Reserves after 46-1/2 years, he moved to Johnson City, TX. He was a Master Mason in the Elizabethtown, PA Lodge and a member of Alzafar Shrine Temple in San Antonio, TX. He had six brothers and a sister. His parents, David H. and Bess M. Johns, preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Margaret Kirtchner and three brothers, Brady Johns, Sam Johns and Bob Johns. He is survived by his wife, Alberta Franklin Johns; stepdaughter, Mary Louise Buller; two stepsons, Kenny Joe Franklin and wife Kay and Dr. James E. Franklin and wife Lynn; step grandchildren, Rev. Ken Buller and wife Sherri, Kimberly, Hank, Chuck, Jonathan and Jamie Franklin; step great-grandchildren, Richelle, AJ, Kaci and Christiana. He is survived by three brothers, Kenneth R. Johns and wife Dorothy of Marietta, PA, Frank M. Johns of Conestoga, PA, and William W. Johns and wife Avis of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; as well as, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Tracy and Ray Heikes, Lillian and Leon Strealy, Esta and Rodney Pickwell, Jimmy and Helen Witten and Loraine Witten; numerous nieces, nephews, family and dear friends. Visitation will begin at Sunset Funeral Home on Thursday, September 11, 2003 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, September 12, 2003 at 3:00 P.M. in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, The Rev. Jimmy Ray Heikes officiating.
