We went through the Great Depression, duststorms, hard times and lots oftragedies. Being 5 son s in the family and every year the crops would blow away before they were even up, my dad (David) decided to see if he could buy some land in Minnesota, which he did. Two of the boys fixed a wagon and drove the horses and cows 130 miles. It took them 32 days I remember. They did hold up a few days I guess. I was away from home at that time. We all had to get out and work as soon as possible. I was working in town and sending home money to my parents. I wish my mother would have written a book or a diary. She was a real pioneer, and as my daughter would say 'an old Bostonian'. In other words she didn't change with the times. David's farm in Iroquois, SD was 480 acres.
