[Strickler.GED] Effie contributed most of the material for the South Dakota Stricklers.She has always been a hard worker. Among her jobs were telephone operator, Cafe Owner, House worker and Nurse. Her favorite job was as a midwife. Obituary: Effie I. Strickler, 99, formerly of Esmond and Iroquois, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at the Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket. She was born Feb. 28, 1901, in Page Center, Iowa. She moved with her family to Nebraska, then to South Dakota. She took care of her parents until their deaths, then moved to the Esmond-Iroquois area, where she lived for more than 40 years. She operated a cafe with her sister in Iroquois during World War II, then began work with Northwestern Public Service as a secretary. She worked with t he company until her retirement in 1961. Shewas well-known for her baking and moved to Huron in 1987. She moved to the Prairie View Care Center in 1996. Survivors include a sister,Lucille Wells of Brownsville, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, and great and great-great nieces and nephews. Services begin at 10:30 a. m.Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Esmond with burial in the Esmond Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Basham Funeral Chapel in Woonsocket.
