[Strickler.GED] Name Suffix:<NSFX> , Sr. Also Known As:<_AKA> /Johannes/ From MennoSearch.com : Born c 1733 On 9 Apr 1754, John obtained a Virginia patent for 230 acres in Augusta County on the north side of the Shenandoah River.[23] He apparently di d not live on his property in Rockingham Co. until sometime after 1767 as he voted in Frederick Co. in 1758 and when he bought land from his father-in-l aw in 1767 he was of Frederick Co. not Augusta County. He probably lived o n some of his father's land, possibly with his mother or his brothers until his move to Rockingham Co.. In the first land tax for Rockingham Co. (which was formed in 1778 from Augusta County) in 1782, he was taxed on 230 acres (app arently the same 230 acres he bought in 1754). After his death, his son John wa s taxed on this same 230 acres. He was taxed at Rockingham Co. in 1788 with one other white male over age 16. In 1792 he was tithed at Rockingham Co., D istrict 14 (East District) with his son Joseph who was over age 16. Next to him was taxed John Strickler Jr. On 26 May 1767, Martin Coffman and his wife Mary of Frederick Co. sold to John Strickler of Frederick Co. 287 acres.[24] From Other Sources: He may have been born in 1733 in Massanutten, Augusta Co unty, Virginia or in 1727. He may have died in 1806. John Strickler is not mentioned in the survey of Abraham Strickler's estate June 1747, but then in Fe b 1749, he is listed in the list of heirs. It must be that John became of age ( age 16) between June 1747 and February 1749, thus being born in late 1732 or ea rly 1733. |
